The Center for American Political Studies has provided funding to the following faculty-led conferences.  Each included various CAPS members.

May 2006 - Democracy, Divided Government, and Split Ticket Voting
Directed by Barry Burden, a conference was convened in May 2006 to consider the dynamics of split-ticket voting in the United States and other democratic polities, including presidential, parliamentary, and mixed political systems.  Selected papers from the conference will be published in a special issue of Electoral Studies, an international journal on voting, electoral systems, and strategy. 

December 2004 - The Transformation of the American Polity 
Directed by Theda Skocpol and Paul Pierson, this conference explored major transformations in U.S. politics over the past four decades -- especially the expansion of the federal government, the rise of conservatism, and shifts in U.S. social policies.  After a preparatory workshop, a conference was held in in December 2004 and papers were subsequently revised for publication in The Transformation of American Politics: Activist Government and the Rise of Conservatism (Princeton University Press, 2007).

July 2004 - Corruption and Reform: Lessons from U.S. History
Directed by Claudia Goldin and Edward Glaeser and co-sponsored by the National Bureau of Economic Research.  With the intention of drawing lessons for transitional economies today, this conference explored what is known about the causes of political, economic, and other forms of institutional corruption in U.S. history, and about the conditions allowing effective reform efforts.  Conference papers were published in Corruption and Reform: Lessons from America's Economic History (University of Chicago Press, 2006).

October 2003 - School Boards: Past, Present, and Future
Directed by Paul Peterson and William Howell, this conference explored where school boards came from, who serves on them, what interests are represented, and how local boards function to manage schools and further or impede educational reforms.  Edited by William Howell, a book entitled Besieged: School Boards and the Future of Education Politics was published in 2005 by the Brookings Institution Press.

2003-2005 - Immigration and Political Participation
Coordinated by Mary C. Waters, a series of workshops have surveyed literatures on the incorporation of recent immigrants into U.S. politics and developed bibliographies and compendia of data bases to share with other scholars.  An April 2005 conference co-sponsored by the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study laid the basis for a forthcoming book, The Next Generation: Children of Immigrants in Europe and North America, edited by Mary Waters and Richard Alba.

May 2002 - Indicators of Americans' Involvements in Public Activities 
Directed by Jennifer Hochschild, this conference convened to consider ways to improve the conceptualization and measurement of civic and political activities.
