Jacob Anbinder is a PhD candidate in history at Harvard, where he studies the politics of American cities and suburbs in the twentieth century. His dissertation, "Cities of Amber: Antigrowth Politics and the Remaking of American Liberalism, 1950–2008," is a history of the postwar revolt against urban growth, its role in the ideological realignment of the Democratic Party, and the origins of the modern urban housing crisis.
