Of Length and Measures: Prison and the the American Landscape, an exhibition of artist Stephen Tourlentesblack and white photographs of U.S. prisons, shot at night, usually from a distance, was on display at the Center for American Political Studies from January 20 – March 31, 2016. This exhibition highlighted the growing pervasiveness of prisons across the U.S. These complexes are often sited for political and economic reasons in isolated landscapes, appearing at night as glowing, ominous oases surrounded by darkness.
