Propel Your Research on American Politics

CAPS enables innovative scholarship with access to people and resources.

Access to Workspaces

Individual and community workspaces are available for CAPS scholars to support research, the launching of programs, and foster a lively exchange of ideas within a multidisciplinary community. CAPS requires that affiliates who would like to occupy CAPS-controlled office space reapply every year. The following criteria will determine how office space is allocated:

  • Equity: We seek to provide everyone with at least some space
  • Need: Some projects may require more space or may be time sensitive
  • Continuity: Current use of an office will be taken into consideration when an occupant reapplies
  • Application submission date

If you have any questions, please email caps@gov.harvard.edu.

CAPS-Harris Poll

The CAPS-Harris Poll is a nationally representative survey of 2,000 registered voters. CAPS affiliates may submit questions to the panel. It is conducted the third week of every month, although timing may vary slightly due to holidays or other factors. Results are weighted for age within gender, region, race/ethnicity, marital status, household size, income, employment, and education where necessary to align them with their actual proportions in the population. Propensity score weighting is also used to adjust for respondents’ propensity to be online.

Have questions about the submission process? Please email aconnaughton@fas.harvard.edu.

National Voter File

CAPS affiliates are able to access and use voter file data for their research. Please note that affiliates must get IRB approval to use the data beforehand.
