Shaping a Stronger CAPS
Make an impact on the future of American democracy.
American democracy is in distress. America’s leading institutions have a responsibility to address this distress and to strengthen American democracy for the long term. Harvard can and should be leading the way in this effort. But, because the threats to American democracy extend beyond the simple balance of political power, we should not lead by simply contributing to the political process. Rather, fixing American politics requires systematic study of the foundations of American politics – from the relationships of citizens to the institutions that govern. It is the mission of CAPS to further this study and to contribute to the training of the next generation of scholars and ethical, analytically-sound leaders.
The non-partisan and cross-ideological CAPS Advisory Board is a crucial part of this effort. By supplying expertise and wisdom, the interaction between the board and the scholars of CAPS lays the foundation for our scholarly pursuits.
