Amisha Kambath is a recipient of a 2022 CAPS Undergraduate Summer Thesis Research Grant. Her proposed thesis is entitled, “Labor Cynicism and the Structural Context of Detachment: A Theory of Development into Detachment.”

Proposal synopsis:
My thesis hypothesizes an economic parallel to the sociological theory of legal cynicism (Sampson and Bartusch 1998). My theory of labor cynicism aims to connect historical and contemporary public policy to the spatial conditions of opportunity, and importantly, how those two components mediate certain groups relationships to the labor force and their perceptions of that relationship. In simplest terms, labor cynicism is a concept that links development to detachment.
