Brittany Shrader

Brittany Shrader is a recipient of a 2023 CAPS Undergraduate Summer Thesis Research Grant. Brittany’s proposed thesis is entitled, “”Cop City”: Understanding the Role of Business in Local Police Expansion.”

Proposal synopsis: Despite massive public disapproval of and organizing against the construction of what is called Cop City, a police training facility in Atlanta, the mayor and city council have approved the project and continue to push it forward. Thus, my project seeks to understand what motivated this policy decision. More broadly, this project asks what drives local governments to support police expansion and what drives local policy decisions, looking particularly at the role of business interests.
