Elizabeth Benecchi is a recipient of a 2024 CAPS Undergraduate Summer Thesis Research Grant. Elizabeth’s proposed thesis is entitled, “American Policy Gaps in Physician-Assisted Suicide.”
Proposal synopsis: Why is there a discrepancy between American public opinion and public policy regarding physician-assisted suicide? The outcome of interest in my study will be to determine the causes which limit the passage of physician-assisted suicide legislation. I aim to assess the rationales behind the votes of state-level legislators in both states where physician-assisted suicide (PAS) legislation was successful and those where it was not.
