Henry Lear

Henry Lear is a recipient of a 2023 CAPS Undergraduate Summer Thesis Research Grant. Henry’s proposed thesis is entitled, “Debt and Disrepair: Public Housing in San Francisco, 1975-1999.”

Proposal synopsis: Most of San Francisco’s public housing is privatized. This thesis will examine the legacy of bonded debt, the neoliberal era, and the racial and aesthetic politics of public housing redevelopment, with a focus on the 1990s and the HOPE VI program.
