Jaden Bharara is a recipient of a 2024 CAPS Undergraduate Summer Thesis Research Grant. Jaden’s proposed thesis is entitled, “Peace or Aggression? American Political Leaders and the Shadow of the Future.”
Proposal synopsis: I aim to investigate how political leaders in the US act when their shadow of the future shrinks. In old age, with little time left, do leaders a) make efforts to reconcile and build peace, or b) become more aggressive and dangerous? To answer this question, I will a) conduct a list experiment on a large sample of politically engaged American citizens, and b) perform interviews with municipal leaders in Massachusetts.
