Jaileen is a 2021 CAPS Undergraduate Fellow, writing a thesis entitled “Understanding Intersecting Demands for Justice.”

Thesis synopsis:

This past summer our country faced a moment of racial reckoning during which traditional systems of justice and punishment were called into question. Simultaneously the #MeToo movement has exposed the pervasiveness of sexual and gender based violence against women and survivors are calling for greater accountability. Both movements aim for greater justice, yet they can be read as incompatible. How do we reconcile the two contemporaneous movements and what is the history of their relationship?
