Justin Brooks
Ph.D. Candidate in Government
Justin Brooks studies how American democratic institutions negotiate Black political subjectivity and, more particularly, how courts deploy constitutional jurisprudence to reproduce inequitable power relations. His current project traces the dialectical relationship between criminal procedure–the Fourth and Fifth Amendments–and the Black body against the backdrop of racialized police violence from Reconstruction until 1968.
