L. Ash Smith
Ph.D. Student in Sociology

Ash Smith is a PhD student in Sociology at Harvard University, and she holds a JD from Harvard Law School. Ash’s research lies at the intersection of crime and punishment, inequality, and law and society. Her dissertation examines the “reform-minded” (or “progressive”) prosecution movement, exploring how this group of locally elected leaders have sought to reform the criminal legal system from the inside out–by transforming the institution of the American prosecutor’s office.
