Lily Richman

Lily Richman is a recipient of a 2023 CAPS Undergraduate Summer Thesis Research Grant. Lily’s proposed thesis is entitled, “Understanding the Lives of Chronically Ill and Disabled American Women.”

Proposal synopsis: In preparation for my senior thesis, I intend to understand modern social and political treatment of American women with invisible, chronic illnesses and disabilities by investigating archival materials documenting the lives of women experiencing chronic pain in the 1800s. My research offers the opportunity to enrich understandings of core American narratives about disability, gender, and their intersections in today’s socio-political interactions.
