Lucy Tu is a recipient of a 2023 CAPS Undergraduate Summer Thesis Research Grant. Lucy’s proposed thesis is entitled, “(Mis)Informed Decision-Making: The Invocation of Science to Influence Reproductive Policy.”
Proposal synopsis: This thesis will investigate how scientific expertise is used to influence reproductive health policy and inform women’s decisions on abortion. The project will explore the medical arguments that underlie reproductive health policies and related judicial decisions, and how the cultural authority of science affects interactions between healthcare providers and patients seeking an abortion.
