Thesis title and description:
“School District Fragmentation in Rural Tennessee: Its Causes and Consequences”

I plan to spend six weeks in rural Tennessee in order to investigate what causal factors have influenced the fragmentation of school districts in rural communities which would typically operate as one county-wide school district. I will conduct archival research as well as interviews with district and community leaders to assess what has lead to the fragmentation of various districts as I test my hypothesis that economic segregation is a leading cause of district fragmentation in rural areas.
