Tobias Benn

Tobias Benn is a recipient of a 2023 CAPS Undergraduate Summer Thesis Research Grant. Tobias’s proposed thesis is entitled, “Advice from the Past: How Historians and Humanists Shape US Foreign Policy.”

Proposal synopsis: I propose to write a thesis on the web of academics who advised the highest levels of the US government on matters of foreign policy. These professors, historians, and scholars of arts and literature worked for the Office of Strategic Services and had direct contact with presidents and directors of the CIA. Many of their archives, and those of government agencies, have recently been declassified and are readily accessible in the northeast.
