Uma Ilavarasan
Ph.D. Candidate in Government
Uma studies the creation of political boundaries, between institutions, individuals, and groups. What goals are achieved through the delineation of “public” and “private,” or “in-group” and “out-group,” and how can these definitions be operationalized to achieve power (and for whom?)? She is particularly interested in “data” as a resource for the state and businesses — how do these entities transform this resource into information, and subsequently, legitimacy?
