Cade Williams is a recipient of a 2022 CAPS Undergraduate Summer Thesis Research Grant. His proposed thesis is entitled, “Soldier-Saints: Nationalism, Folk Religion, and Dead Body Politics in New Orleans.”
Proposal synopsis:
The focus of this project is to investigate the roots of Neo-Confederate nationalist ideology with an eye toward nationalism, folk religious discourse, and the politicization of dead bodies (especially Confederate monuments and memorials). In carrying out this investigation, I plan to conduct in-person ethnographic research with the Beauregard Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans in New Orleans.
