"Rethinking Police Business: The Co-Production of Community-Oriented Problem-Solving in Boston"

My dissertation chapter recounts the genesis of desegregated police patrols and multiracial special units in the city of Boston amid the infamous busing crisis. As a critical mass of Black policemen, and later policewomen, integrated the Boston Police Department in the 1970s and 80s, urban police reformers and researchers began experimenting with novel preventive patrol tactics and computer-based technologies for combatting youth gangs and rampant racial violence in targeted neighborhoods.
