Saul Glist is a recipient of a 2022 CAPS Undergraduate Summer Thesis Research Grant. His proposed thesis is entitled, “McCormack-Baron and the Redefinition of Redevelopment.”

Proposal synopsis:
My project will examine the transitional years following the 1972 demolition of Pruitt-Igoe in St. Louis through the lens of McCormack-Barona for-profit housing developer who sought to redefine low-income housing. I am concerned with how individuals and community organizations envisioned the future of their neighborhoods amidst the end of the War on Poverty. These imaginings are vital to understanding St. Louis today and the trajectory of the post-Industrial American city more broadly.
